This month we meet Viv, the face behind the interiors, decorating & fashion blog ish and chi.

How do you describe ish and chi to people you meet who haven’t read it before?

It’s a design blog. I write about my home, interiors, projects and I get dressed up on Fridays. Oh and ‘ish and chi’ is short for ‘fish and chips’. Long story but let’s just say this is proof I always had food on my mind when I was pregnant with my son.

When did you first start blogging and what made you first hit the keyboard?

I started in September 2008. I was decorating my son’s nursery at the time and felt my family and friends were bored of me talking about it so I took to the internet. I really didn’t think anyone would read my blog. It was more of a place for me to put together ideas.

What is the thing you most enjoy about blogging?

The people I have met. The cool opportunities that have come from it. It has cemented in my mind that design is the career path I want to take.

What is the coolest thing your blog has helped you do?

Recently I started an internship for a cool new magazine to be launched very soon. My blog was the easiest way to show the editors my work and I was so happy when I was asked to be a part of the team.

What piece of advice would you give someone just starting out their very first blog?

Write because you love the topic.

Tell us about your pets, friends, hobbies, star sign, shoe size… whatever!

I have a cat called Jessie who is a total furball. Two chickens called Bill and Tony. They are female. 

My friends are some of the most awesome people I have ever met. 

I wish I had time for a hobby or a sport but I can barely squeeze in what I do already. I work two jobs, study part time, manage my online store and take on writing gigs. 

My most favourite thing in the world is cuddles from my three year old boy. 

And I’m an Aquarian.

Lastly… why aren’t drapes double-sided so it looks nice on the inside and the outside of your home?

I know! I don’t have curtains in my home but if I did I would line with a sheer curtain. Love the look of sheer white curtains blowing in the wind. Oh no, now I’m tempted to make more changes to my home.
