This month we meet Seyma, the blogger behind fashion, makeup and personal style blog Hijab Revival!
She was described by The Age newspaper as “putting the hip into hijab“, and she’s putting her own personal style spin on what it means to be a Muslim fashionista in Australia. Please meet Seyma from Hijab Revival!
How do you describe Hijab Revival to people you meet who haven’t read it before?
Hijab Revival is a blog about fashion, makeup and things that make me think. It is a collection of pictures marking my personal journey through fashion and style.
When did you first start blogging and what made you first hit the keyboard?
The blog was created in May 2009 and to tell you the truth it was actually the brainchild of my sister (the blogger behind Coco’s Pearls). I kind of took over the blog a few months after its creation as I was a bored stay at home mum with nothing to do.
What is the thing you most enjoy about blogging?
I love the way it connects me to people not only from around the world but also to people right here in Melbourne city. I have met so many wonderful and beautiful individuals since I started blogging.
What is the coolest thing your blog has helped you to do?
It has really brought me out of my shell in terms of fashion and style. I have always had a deep appreciation for fashion but have never had the guts to experiment with some of the more risqué styles out there. Now I do try different looks for the sake of the blog which I just think is fabulous!
What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out their very first blog?
STICK IT OUT! I know it can get overwhelming especially if you are a student or working or even a mum but honestly just keep persevering and you will make it big!
Tell us about your pets, friends, hobbies, star sign, shoe size… whatever!
I am a working mum and wife and also the youngest of 5 girls. My favourite hobby is vintage shopping as you never know what treasure you are going to find. I also love to read (when I have the time!) and I can honestly read anything and everything and still enjoy it!
Do you have a particular favourite post you think is Hijab Revival at its best?
Well I can’t choose one post in particular but I really love the whole “Seyma Loses It” series (Part 1, 2 & 3 & 4) as it is a collection of my thoughts and observations. I only write these when I’m at my most passionate which is why I think they have been so popular with my readers.
