Writer, Blogger, Model, Mother and your Community Manager extraordinaire! When I started blogging back in February 2008, it was a bit of a laugh. A way to keep a diary of all my outfits and make the most of my wardrobe, that has grown to become a blog about living your most glamorous life – just because you want to!
First let’s answer an often asked question; “Kawaii” means “Cute” in Japanese. I’ve been a huge fan of Japanese art, animation, fashion and culture since I can remember. Both the Hello Kitty cutesy kind and the more traditional kind – which is one of the reasons behind the rather large Koi fish tattooed up my back! And the “Mama” bit? That’s pretty self explanatory- I have two little girls, Miss 5 and Miss 2, around whom all this day to day craziness takes place! I’m nothing if not a paradox, and that’s what makes me me. Super Kawaii Mama is not just a blog about fashion. It is a blog about style. Lifestyle, design, inspirational people, inspirational thoughts; and while it is personal it focuses only really in one aspect of my life – the aesthetic. Without colour and humor in design, my world would be a dull place. So in a way, fashion is my artists brush; my way of finding the little extra joy in day to day life and bringing it to you by the eyeful.
When it comes to fashion though, I’m no big name dropper. I may have been following it for many (many) years, but I don’t make the catwalks my encyclopedia. It is vintage fashion that is my passion, and I’ve been collecting all manner of garments, accessories and stories for over twenty years now. (Man, that is starting to sound scary out loud like that!) Of course, this means that my wardrobe is constantly out of control, trying to find homes for everything and finding it very difficult to give things away. But I figured out a way of getting around the guilt and turned my passion into my living! By day I blog about my vintage finds, the outfits I put together, my life and my take on the psychology of what we wear. By night I moonlight as a vintage model and stylist. This could mean eight hours of standing around in the freezing cold, waiting to get the perfect shot in a 1950′s swimsuit, or working with a client looking for the perfect 1930′s evening gown to wear to a gallery opening. The fun is in the mix, and I’m no vintage purist. I like to wear the old with the new,the staid with the irreverent; to mix it all up to create my own unique brand of glamour – that is what makes me happy.
I’ve got to say that blogging is the best, and while it can sometimes be hard to keep up the pace of posting everyday, the community of readers make it all worthwhile. I would never have imagined when I began, that blogging would take me as far afield as Houston Texas, and even Tokyo, to meet some of my readers and hit the town with them! What began as a way to indulge my love of fashion in a life filled with Play School, has now become a full time job. And I couldn’t be happier!
So don’t be shy, com on over and say “Hi” to me on the blog!
